DISASTER MANAGEMENT
Your friend in the time of need.
We work with communities to reduce their risks to natural and man-made hazards, but more so to ensure that they are able to cope when impacted. When a disaster strikes we are there to provide immediate relief and support. Through our network of trained volunteers, we respond quickly and provide vital help on the basis of need and are usually the first to arrive and the last to leave.
With specific responsibilities under the National Response Plan, the St Lucia Red Cross carries out the following activities to support those affected.
Provide relief supplies during the first 72 hours after a disaster
We constantly maintain stores of emergency NFIs (non-food items) which can be made available immediately after the occurrence of an emergency. Our supplies include comfort kits that contain daily necessities such as toothbrushes and deodorant.
Assist with distribution of relief supplies
We distribute donations of relief supplies received from the International Red Cross, other Red Cross Societies, and if needed supplies from the Government of St Lucia and Voluntary Organisations
Reconnect families
We help families move on with their lives by reconnecting families separated during disasters, conflicts and crisis.
Assist at emergency shelters
We help make the stay at emergency shelters more comfortable through the provision of meals and first aid.
